The Wiener Werkstätte combined fine and applied art to convey a whole new outlook on life (Gesamtkunstwerk), liberated from the stractures of historicism and superfluous onrnamentation. The artists experimented with an endless variety of material, from gold and presiouc stones to paper mache and glass beads. The book explores the Wiener Werkstätte, following the 30-years fortunes of this crafts studio.
