Wacik, Franz. – Ländliche Szene.

Franz Wacik (Wien 1883 – 1938 Wien) began his artistic training at the Strehblow Painting School, which he attended while working as a clerk. Later, he studied under Alfred Roller at the Vienna School of Applied Arts. From 1902 to 1908, Wacik studied painting under Christian Griepenkerl, Franz Rumpler, and Heinrich Lefler at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts. He gained recognition as a book illustrator, particularly of children’s and young adult literature. His colorful illustrations adorned works by E. T. A. Hoffmann, Hugo von Hoffmannsthal, Clemens Brentano, the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm, and the folk tale of Till Eulenspiegel. In 1913, Wacik designed the poster for the Vienna Secession’s spring exhibition. – Most likely illustration for a fairy tale, with the printers mark on the sides.
