The “Disarmament Picture Book. The Peace Conference in Cartoons by All Nations” is a publication that appeared in 1899 and contains 107 contemporary cartoons by international artists, that satirically depict the public’s cynical and often humorous view of the First Hague Peace Conference. The conference was convened by Tsar Nicholas II to halt the arms race, but in the eyes of the satirists, it often came across as a naive or even hypocritical event orchestrated by the great powers. – The cartoons are by Caran d’Ache, Caspari, Th. Th. Heine, Köystrand, E.T. Reed, Vanselow and others. – Times have not changed unfortunately.
