Originally produced for the part-work series “Modern Athens! Displayed in a Series of Views; or Edinburgh in the 19th Century”. Thomas Hosmer Shepherd (1793.1864). ‘Townscape painter. The master recorder of the ninethenns century urban scene, known for his famous series of views of Bath, Bristol, Edinbourgh and London. Responsible for the original designes of hundreds of engravings. Over 1500 of his sketches are preserve in the major collections.
