One of 100 numbered copies, enriched with a nice, two page autograph signed by the author, adressed to René Philipon, with the original envelope. Copy from the library of the Earl of Philipon (coat of arms of the Vertcoeur castle on the front board). – First edition of this poem, published by André Suarès under the pseudonym Félix Bangoret on December 10, 1918, without the author’s name, supposedly translated from Welsh and English. It was produced at the expense of collector Jacques Doucet, who spent 62,000 francs on it and delegated his erudite secretary Albert Vualfort to liaise with the printer and author. Vualfort had a significant influence on the composition and printing process, with the proceeds from sales going entirely to Suarès to enable him to work for a while without worrying about the future. A beautiful work, typical of its time, one of the very first illustrated by Louis Jou (1882-1968): two full-page compositions printed on antique Japanese paper, one in black and the other in monochrome, numerous initial letters with floral backgrounds printed in six colors. the prospectus, attached to the copy, indicates that the book was printed in very black and slightly bold type on magnificent Auvergne paper, of exceptional quality, resonant, almost tear-proof, already very old and from a unique batch. The edition has been produced with the utmost care. It has been made according to the renewed principles of the admirable printers of the Renaissance. However, it is in no way a copy or a pastiche: it belongs to our time.
