Rare trail-proof with wide margins and printers marks. Berthold Löffler was one of the main representatives of the Viennese art noveau and became famous for his book illustrations and poster designs. – This poster was aimd to advertise a newly opened restaurant in Salzburg, where Löffler and also Josef Hoffmann designed the interior decoration. This posters were also printed as postcards of the Wiener Werkstätte. „The year 1912 saw the commission to decorate the ‚Salzburger Volkskeller‘ (now destroyed) under the Hotel Pitter, Bertold Löffler’s main work of interior design…Alongside Josef Hoffmann, Löffler was responsible for the wall decorations…The posters advertising the new restaurant were just as folksy as the decorations. Colorful baroque putti, standing or flying, correspond to the new taste. The designs for the Salzburger Volkskeller were printed and distributed as postcards by the Wiener Werkstätte“ (Rainal Franz). Bertold Löffler was one of the most versatile artists in Vienna at the turn of the century. Vienna at the turn of the century, which was certainly not short of great artists. Collaborations with the Wiener Werkstätte in all conceivable graphic fields. The ceramic decoration of the Cabarett Fledermaus, the decoration of the Palais Stoclet, book art (also for the Ver Sacrum) and much more still bear witness to his exuberant ingenuity. It is regrettable that there is still no comprehensive account of his work. Literature: Werner J. Schweiger, Die Wiener Werkstätte, page 264; Michael Pabst, Die Wiener Graphik um 1900, page 333f.
